How to Make and Publish a Game With Claude Code or Codex
Your coding agent can write a game in an afternoon. Getting it hosted, on phones and in front of players is the part Remix handles. Two ways to do it.
Claude Code and Codex are very good at writing games now. Ask for a tap-to-jump game and you'll have something playable before your coffee gets cold. Then the questions start. Where does it live? How does a friend play it on their phone? Where do the high scores go?
Remix answers those questions so your agent can stay on the game. There are two ways in.
Option 1: Remix Desktop
Remix Desktop runs the coding agent you already use, with the AI subscription you already pay for: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or OpenCode. It sits next to your game project and a live preview, so you watch every change land.
From there you can make phone games, full-screen desktop games and 3D portal worlds. Ask for leaderboards, achievements or cloud saves and the agent wires them up through the Remix SDK. Multiplayer games can add a hosted game server from the composer's plus menu.
When it's ready, publish from the app. Remix Desktop is free to download for Mac, Windows and Linux.
Option 2: Your Own Editor and the CLI
Already have a setup you like? Point your agent at the Remix docs and let it use the remix command from your terminal. The command comes with Remix Desktop, which runs the same commands when you publish from the app, so both workflows share one project format.
remix login # sign in once in the browser
remix create game # make a draft and a game folder
remix publish # upload a new playable version
Give the agent the references, not a guess. The coding agents guide lists what to share, and the whole documentation set is one file at /docs/llms-full.txt for agents that can fetch it.
Uploading and launching are separate on purpose. remix publish creates a draft version you can play and check. Only remix publish --launch takes a version live, so let your agent pass --launch only when you say so.
Start With a Small Brief
The best first prompt is short and testable:
Build a portrait tap-to-jump game in this Remix project.
The player avoids gaps and scores for distance survived.
Use touch and mouse input. Start with simple shapes.
Do not upload or launch until I ask. Tell me what to test.
Play the first loop before you add art or systems. Change one thing at a time so you know which change helped.
What Your Game Gets on Remix
Every published game gets its own page on remix.gg, a share link and an embed code. It plays in a browser, in Remix Desktop and in the Remix apps for iOS and Android, and Remix records an AI trailer from real gameplay. Squadron, a staff-pick flying game by grumby, is the kind of full-screen desktop game you can ship this way.
Top creators also earn: Creator Rewards pays out every Friday based on how much your games are played.
Making a game takes a Remix plan. Download Remix Desktop, or open the CLI reference and hand it to your agent.
